Increase traffic through blog commenting

Building up your blog’s traffic can be a long and slow process because it takes time to build a steady, strong, and consistent readership. There are several different ways that you can direct more traffic to your site, and one way that you can spike your traffic numbers is by becoming active within your blogging niche’s community and forming relationships with other bloggers. To do this effectively you should consider utilize blog commenting to your advantage. When you’re writing out blog comments on other people’s blogs keep these things in mind:
blog commenting to drive traffic

1. Comment immediately

This isn’t a tactic that will always work unless you’re glued to your computer 100% of the time and are constantly checking to see if bloggers have updated, but when you can try to be one of the first commenters on a post. If you can secure that first position then you’ll end up being a comment that almost every other commenter will read, thus increasing your chances of others clicking back over to your blog.

2. Have a voice

Don’t just be another generic “this is great” comment on a blog because no one will be interested in further reading what you have to say on your own blog that way. When you write a comment, you should make sure that you have a unique voice that shows you took the time to not only read the post thoroughly but to also spend time crafting a quality response. It is these types of comments that pique people’s interest because they’re so well-written that they compel other readers to visit your blog.

3. Comment frequently

The only way that you’re going to form any lasting relationships with other bloggers is to comment frequently so that they begin to recognize you as a regular reader. Forming relationships with other bloggers opens up different opportunities such asguest posting for other bloggers, being featured on their sites, or even exchanging links to great posts that either of you have written.

4. Have a Gravatar

Because blogging is done solely behind a computer screen it’s important to give yourself a face so that people begin to feel more connected to you. Personality through words is only one step of becoming a real person to readers, and having a Gravatar allows them to see you in a new light. It also helps bloggers pick up quickly that you are a regular reader and commenter, and people are more compelled to click on your site from a comment when they can put a face to a name.

5. Respond to other commenters

In addition to commenting on someone’s post you should also read through the other comments and reply back to things that other commenters have said. This encourages healthy conversation and debate within the comment’s section of blogs – something that every blogger loves – and it can also help intrigue other reader’s curiosity in what else you may be saying outside of the comment’s section and on your own blog.

6. Don’t come across as spam

There is nothing worse than looking like a spammer that is just out to drop links all over the blogging world and not an actual blogger who just has something to say. Avoid linking excessively to past posts you may have written and only link to your blog where it’s relevant.

7. Debate not disparage

From time to time bloggers can write some pretty controversial posts, and when they do it’s a great opportunity to get out your point of view in the comment’s section. However there is a big difference between tactfully voicing your opinion or stance on a situation and completely vilifying other people for their beliefs. Approach these types of post with caution and be wary in how you word things so that you encourage people to read your blog; you don’t want to lose potential readers because you came across as rude and insensitive.
Blog commenting isn’t as simple as just writing out a two-word comment on someone’s post. In fact it actually requires time and effort, and can end up being an extremely effective tool for taking other people’s traffic and turning it into your own when it’s done well. Don’t just be another statistic in the comment’s section, be a real person that other’s want to interact with!
